What Is an Evergreen Requisition?

What Is an Evergreen Requisition?

Published

Updated

An evergreen requisition is an always-open or recurring job requisition used to collect candidates for roles that are hired frequently or continuously.

Always-open roles can create healthy pipelines or messy candidate databases. Without discipline, candidates apply to a role that is not actively hiring, recruiters lose track of readiness, and hiring managers see stale shortlists.

What to Distinguish

An evergreen requisition builds a recurring pipeline; it does not necessarily represent an immediately funded vacancy. A specific opening still needs an owner, location, headcount approval and expected start date.

A Practical Example

Illustrative example: A hospitality group keeps an evergreen requisition for front-of-house staff across several venues. Candidates are screened for availability, customer service examples, and location preference, then routed when a specific manager has an approved opening.

What to Measure

Use explicit definitions for your reporting. The following are practical measurement choices, not universal benchmarks or claimed product results.

Measure Definition Interpretation
Pipeline freshness Profiles with availability reconfirmed within your chosen window ÷ profiles treated as active × 100. Choose a window suited to the role and do not count an old application as continuing interest.
Time to live shortlist First approved shortlist timestamp minus the date a specific opening was authorised. Separate time building the general pool from time filling the actual vacancy.

How to Apply It

Tell candidates whether hiring is active or expressions of interest are being collected. Reconfirm availability before presenting someone to a manager and link each eventual hire to the funded opening.

Common Mistakes

  • Advertising a role without explaining timing.
  • Letting candidates sit with no updates.
  • Mixing locations or job families without tags.
  • Forgetting to close or refresh stale profiles.

Where Skill Society Fits

Skill Society supports role-specific questions and candidate evidence for review. For an evergreen pool, the recruiting team still needs to reconfirm interest and availability and connect candidates to an approved live role.
